OUR BUSINESS
Our three key principles:
Great Service.
At its core, our team is made up of star players. Whether its a Saturday job or a career, we hire and nurture excellence. We have filled our community with friendly faces and passionate speakers, who are proud to be a part of the team they're in. We are always keen to improve and look for new directions we could take, something which we believe is fundamental to maintaining our historic success as a hospitality group in Plymouth.
Great Coffee.
Our love for coffee runs deep throughout our team, we've got coffee nerds in head office, management and plenty of nerds-in-training! Simply, we believe a brew tastes better when it's made by someone who loves making it. We are proud to work with Origin Coffee, who roast the beans we use down in Porthleven and allow us to keep our supply chain local, because the south west is always best.
Great Food.
Our menu is always a reflection of our values, from our exciting and diverse flavours, to the local people, using local produce, who create them. We switch it up seasonally, with specials created by our chefs weekly.
Our brilliant chefs are always up for planning and executing a buffet for private parties, and any cake you see across any of our venues has been made in-house by Claire over at Terra Nova.
OUR MISSION
Making sure everyone's a winner.
At its heart, Toze Hospitality Group is about people. We believe in nurturing growth, that a team is only as strong as its weakest member, and that winning feels better when everyone has a share in it. Our project has its roots in Plymouth and continues to invest in the potential we see for our city. We have immense pride for our work and love for the people who support it, focusing on a cycle of supply and consumption which aims to benefit everyone involved in it and attract expansion and opportunity for us and our community.

OUR STORY
How we became who we are today:
2012-2020
Steve Toze opened Rockets and Rascals in 2013, the shop/cafe symbolised the beginnings of our project to accelerate the indie coffee scene into the Plymouth mainstream, and paid tribute to the cycling community which Steve calls home, having previously founded a bike magazine in the city. The café saw a network of regulars and staff who love Rockets', this network is still very much alive, and still growing, today! Rockets' success is profoundly inspiring to the team who work there, but also to the city as a whole, demonstrating the power of small businesses who focus on the community which raises them.
2020-2022
Rockets & Rascals, much like the rest of the UK, rode the Covid-19 life-quake. We decided, despite setbacks surrounding us, to push forward and open Black Cat Surf Club on Plymstock Broadway - our second location. We wanted to focus on the surf culture which plays a huge part in the south west's social scene and is a product of the landscape our corner of the country has to offer. The team worked hard to build a lively community and vibrant environment which has attracted love and loyalty from our customers in Plymstock, expanding our quest for success into the suburbs of our home city and helping shape Plymstock's vibe.
2022-Present
The historic Crown Hotel building in Devonport was a deal done with heart. The team saw its potential and opened Terra Nova Café in 2022. The café pays homage to the legacy of Captain Robert Falcon Scott, with his story close to the heart of both the Devonport area and our team. We've grown Terra into a hotspot, the beautiful interior is both an Instagram favourite and an inspiring environment for the people working in the building, our hope to nurture the next generation of pioneers and explorers is central to our work.
Now with three cafes under our wing we formed a group of companies, Toze Hospitality Group, in November '24
Our Behaviours
Always aiming high.
Toze Hospitality Group has always been driven only onwards and upwards. We centralise passion for great service and unique hospitality experiences to everything we do. Whether its the buildings we choose for our cafés or the events we host for our community, we are a team of people who believe in our own potential and are excited about every aspect of our operations.
We're not looking at what others do, we're in our own lane, doing our own thing.

OUR TEAM
Our dream team.

STEVE TOZE
Director & Founder
Steve started Toze Hospitality Group with Rockets and Rascals in 2012, he is the afore-mentioned coffee nerd in head office, and wanted to bring the indie coffee scene to Plymouth. A network of lycra-clad coffee lovers emerged from the creation of the bike-themed shop and inspired a determination to shape the hospitality culture in Plymouth, a city Steve is an advocate for to the very core of his identity, and thus some of Plymouth's most beloved cafés were born.

JASON GREEN
Manager
Jason joined our team in 2021, and quickly demonstrated his capability as a manager. He runs the show over at Rockets and Rascals and is key to the success of the project, from being there for the staff, to providing warm hospitality to both regulars and first-time visitors alike, both in the shop and at events on Plymouth Barbican. He's an avid bike-rider, coffee-drinker and Wes Anderson-movie-watcher and is passionate about overseeing Rockets' rise to the fullest of its potential.

DAN FRIER
Manager
Dan joined our team in 2021. He champions care for both his team and his community over at Black Cat Surf Club. Dan prioritises providing an offer which grows more unique and exciting by the day, getting involved in the Broadway community and tapping into new flavours across both coffee and food. He wears his pride for the team down all the way to his Black Cat socks, and leads with an enthusiasm about the potential he sees in the Toze Hospitality Group every day.
